MIT Tech Review: Crystal Ball for Corn Crop Yields Will Revolutionize Commodity Trading.

Consistent with Kernel predictions, the USDA sees 2016 shaping up to be a bumper crop for US corn.  The newUSDA forecast of 175.1 Bu/Ac published at noon EST today beats the 2014 high of 171.0 Bu/Ac by 2.4%.  Relative to today’sKernel forecast for corn of169.5 Bu/Ac, the USDA forecast is 3.3% higher.  At this stage in the growing season it seems clear that yields are well above historical norms, although end of season yields will remain sensitive to weather conditions in coming weeks.  Stay tuned to theKernel BETA for daily updated monitoring of this season’s harvest.
